PIGI Film
PIGI Film is a type of actual 'film' projection that transforms a building or other architectural form into a new experience. This a very public kind of art that can illuminate a populations relationship with a building they encounter daily perhaps their entire life. Unlike video projection or simple lighting, PIGI Projection can be so architecturally specific that the result seems less of a projection than a new skin.
The Process
Working from high-resolution survey's down months in advance of a site, we as designers would be able to create artwork with consistent themes that addressed the smallest detail of the architecture, enhancing architectural features or bringing something new out of a building that even a regular observor would find fascinating.
Designing for high density color film projection is an exacting process. Consider that 16 square centimtres of film will be thrown onto a structure as a 25 meter square and you can imagine the difficulties.
The Work
Due to the high stakes and value of this extremely specialized kind of work, translating a client's brief into a renderable projection is an incredible challenge. Often when working with such a foreign and exacting medium, managing a client's desires is a large part of the process; educating without alienating becomes an art in itself.
